YAMASA

Story

YAMASA

A canvas craftsman who handles everything from dyeing to sewing

Canvas craftsman Sasaki is from Kyoto. He grew up in a kimono bathhouse and was involved with fabrics from an early age, which led him to pursue this path.

In 2011, he moved to Tebajima, a remote island in Tokushima Prefecture. In order to preserve the atmosphere of Tebajima, which was once a fishing town, he began making bags using canvas from boat sails and fishing flags.

All of the colors used in YAMASA items are dyed using plants.

The key point is that they are environmentally friendly, using ingredients such as indigo, persimmon tannins, chestnuts, and coffee dregs.

Each item has a different color, and you can enjoy the changes that occur over time.

We make bags and pouches from canvas that was used for ship sails. They are carefully handcrafted, and we aim to make products that are durable and can be used for many years.

Handmade, natural items are also attracting attention from city dwellers who are sensitive to the SDGs.
