"Kamikatsu Awaban Tea" is produced in Kamikatsu town in Tokushima.
It has a long history, and the rare method of fermenting the tea leaves and its taste have been passed down through the generations. Its refreshing sour aroma is unique. This unique manufacturing technique for fermenting the tea leaves has been designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. The Kamikatsu Awa Bancha Association is also actively working on branding, and in March 2023, Kamikatsu Awa Bancha was registered as a national "Regional Collective Trademark" to protect local specialty products as regional brands.
However, the number of bancha farmers is decreasing year by year due to aging, and if things continue as they are, there will be no one to make Kamikatsu Awa Bancha, and the survival of Kamikatsu Awa Bancha itself will be in jeopardy. In order to overcome this situation, we have created a training program to provide an opportunity to learn everything about Awa Bancha production.
