The tea leaves are picked in August, and undergo lactic acid fermentation, sun drying, and sorting by the end of September. The tea is then available for sale as new tea from October!

This is a rare lactic acid fermented tea that is made by hand in the hottest part of summer, with the tea spread out in a barrel and left to soak. It has very little caffeine, so it is easy for anyone to drink, from babies to the elderly. It is also said to improve constipation, reduce hay fever, and prevent diabetes, and has been introduced at Tokushima University and on TV.

This is a type of tea bag that you can easily drink whenever you want. One tea bag will make one teapot's worth of tea (about 500-600g). Palm fibers may get into the tea leaves during the process of rubbing them. This does not affect the product, so please rest assured.

About Kamikatsu Awa Bancha

Awabancha is a tea made in the mountains of Tokushima Prefecture that has a unique flavor, boiled, soaked, and fermented with lactic acid bacteria. You probably haven't heard of much lactic acid fermented tea anywhere in the world. It's also a lactic acid drink, so it goes without saying that it's good for your health.

As it conveys ancient tea-making techniques, it has also attracted attention when considering Japan's food culture surrounding tea, and in March 2021 it was registered as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.

Characteristics of Tea

Kamikatsu Awa Bancha has a "refreshing acidity" due to its unique production method using lactic acid fermentation.

Each household in Kamikatsu picks the pickles and the pickling method varies slightly, resulting in different aromas and flavors.

For this reason, we recommend trying different types of tea to find your favorite brand.

There are other features as well.

・The caffeine content is extremely low, so it can be safely consumed by babies and pregnant women .

- Contains anti-allergic ingredients that reduce allergic reactions to pollen, rhinitis, and other allergies (individual results may vary)

・Completely pesticide-free organic tea

Kamikatsu Awa Bancha from Awai Shoten

My first encounter with Kamikatsu Awabancha was four years ago, and I still remember it as a shocking and moving experience.

The scenery where the tea leaves grow was not as neatly arranged as I had imagined, but rather the trees were growing wildly, so naturally that an amateur like me would not know where they were. I was fascinated by the vitality of the evening tea buds, which were strong, sturdy, and trying their best to grow.

We work closely with local farmers, providing support and learning about tea on a daily basis. This is why we can confidently recommend our products, and they are in fact our best-selling products.

We will continue to spread the appeal of Kamikatsu Awa Bancha to the world through tea cultivation, and we will also strive to overcome issues such as declining production due to aging and the problem of finding successors.
